Strengthening local newspapers through advocacy
Focused on impact. Built for engagement.
Focused on impact. Built for engagement.
Through joint strategies and active engagement with elected officials, business leaders, and community stakeholders, the Coalition ensures that the value of local newspapers is clearly understood—and that their needs are not overlooked.
Our mission is not partisan. It is practical, local, and community-centered: safeguarding access to reliable, independent, professionally produced local news that supports strong economies, informed citizens, and resilient communities.
The importance of local newspapers
Local newspapers are a vital part of civic and economic life in communities across the country—especially in small towns and rural regions. Through print and digital offerings they provide trusted, locally focused information that helps residents stay informed, engaged, and connected to the issues that matter most.
For generations, these newspapers have served as reliable sources of news, public notices, and community priorities—adapting across print and digital platforms while staying true to their mission.
Unlike national media, local newspapers reflect the values and perspectives of middle America. Most are independently or family-owned businesses that contribute to the local economy while safeguarding a community’s voice.
In a time of growing distrust in other media, local newspapers continue to earn public confidence—offering a credible platform for both news and local advertising, and helping ensure that regional priorities are heard and understood.
